Introduction – A different type of socialization
The advice “pray for one another” is the perfect expression of a happy soul that enjoys a form of socialization in a time of social distancing. This probably seems absurd or meaningless precisely because we, Christians, have become accustomed to treating everything superficially, to taking words, even those of the Bible, as what they are at first sight, and thus ignoring the essence and the deeper meaning that lies beyond them.
From my point of view, the “pray for each other” advice has, among other aspects, two dimensions, both of which are a response to man’s need for socialization. Thus, God meets this need by guiding us to a way of satisfying it effectively, both in a period of normalcy and freedom, and in a period of crisis like the one of social distancing we face today. Basically, He gives us the ideal and effective solution to prevent the harmful effects of such a measure.
As a result, the advice to pray for one another includes, in my view, a personal dimension that involves socializing with God and a social dimension, which is closer to the common sense of the term as we know it, that involves relating to others as a preliminary process of prayer for them.
