The One and Only Type of Freedom

I have always liked history. And not that I’ve only liked it, but I found it fascinating, it completely fascinated me. I have never had good memory when it came to memorizing numbers, but I have always been good at remembering and understanding events in a logical and chronological order.

At a certain point in life, I have considered becoming an undergraduate history student. I quickly gave up on the idea. I considered that I would get to literally starve if I had to live from a salary that came from this type of studies. And honestly, it looked like a suicidal thought to me to know so much about the past.

At that point, I had already known enough history to realize that the human race is… let’s say less intelligent. We don’t learn anything from what we get through and we choose to spin in a circle like hamsters on wheels in their own cages. We consider ourselves intelligent, evolved and superior to all other species. In reality, we are as thick as two short planks.

We build in a few decades just so that in the next few decades we can demolish everything. We fight for decades for freedoms that we then give up because we are tired of being free. We always want something new. But we forget that ‘new’ does not necessarily mean better.

And when we finally come to our senses, we desperately try to glue the piles of shards that no longer fit together. Obviously, unsuccessfully. The only solution remains to start all over again.

I would like people to understand one thing regardless of the country they live in, the ideas they support, the political parties they sympathize with and so on: Freedom is a self-contained concept.

Freedom is not a concept that supports negotiation. It either exists or it doesn’t. Freedom does not come in variants and versions, it cannot have more faces or more angles of interpretation and presentation. Freedom cannot take different forms to satisfy the desires of different people.

And above all, freedom does not come with terms and conditions.
